Within the Student Registers module itself, when you search for pupils, their names come up using their preferred name.
Then, when you click into the pupil record, the name at the top of the screen, is the pupil's first name.
Additionally, if you have integrated the register with other modules (e.g. you have an icon displayed on an attendance register which brings up the record when clicked on), the pupil's first name, not preferred name, is used.
It would be great to have consistency in the way that names are displayed throughout iSAMS. In general, I would favour the forename (preferred name) format, but it might be that we need to have the option to configure this on a per-register basis as I anticipate using the register to discuss issues around a pupil's name.
