This would save the user having to edit the report into a logical end user friendly report. We like to have forename, surname and gender in the report and the gender column appears inbetween the forename and surname that looks silly and requires m...
This feature is available in update 24.8.6.7 so this will be available as this update is rolled out to your systems in the next week. Hope you find it useful. Please let me know any feedback on the feature.
Thank you for all your comments and feedback. This feature is currently in development and should be available soon.
@Guest The current project is only looking into changing the column ordering within the Export Wizard that exists in Student Manager, Student Registers and Medical Centre. If column ordering would be useful in Reports Wizard as well, please would you create a separate idea for this with examples of where this would be useful within the Reports Wizard and how it would help your school? Then I can review it separately as part of the reporting modules. Thanks
Hi everyone, thank you for the feedback - this was really useful to know. I will confirm with the developers that each export needs its own custom column ordering. Our intention is to have this as an extra step within the wizard that allows the user to drag and drop the selected fields into the order that the user wants them to appear on each export.
Once the project moves forward, I will update the status of this idea.
Dear Lyndsey,
Thank you so much for following up on this - I totally agree with everyone who has answered you earlier.
We need each export file for totally different reasons and logistics, so a custom default ordering wouldn't help at all.
If the column order could be sorted in advance, that would ease our daily job in school administration.
Hi Lyndsey. The use case for us would be if we were exporting data in order to import it to another platform - we'd always try to connect via an api first, but that's not always possible and different platforms have their own import templates that are strict on the column order. We use INCAS and NGRT for exams, as well as various teaching platforms. Being able to organise columns on each report, rather than having one master template, would be useful for us.
Thank you for your suggestion. I have been looking into this project and so I am now posting to ask customers who are interested in this feature for feedback on the potential options - an option would be for users to set a custom default ordering for the export fields that would apply to all exports. The other (more extensive and lengthy) option would be that the user could select the column ordering for each separate export. If an export was then saved for future use, the ordering of the fields could be saved as part of the saved export.
Would having a custom default order that applies to all exports be enough or would specific exports need the option for users to select a custom order for the export fields as well?
Please comment with your feedback and if you could provide examples of when the option would be useful and why, that would be extremely helpful.
